ACC Championship Race Predictions: How It'll Play Out

The ACC is easily the most interesting of the power conference races. Four teams are 4-1, Miami and Louisville are still around with two losses, and teams will be picking each other off left and right.

The last three weeks will be a blast, with every game affecting everything else, so what’s going to happen and who will end up in the ACC Championship? 

Going into Week 12, we try to predict the final standings and everything that will happen – knowing full well it’ll all blow up with just one blip.

Georgia Tech over Duke
Pitt could have something very, very different to say about this.

The Panthers play both Georgia Tech and Miami, but very, very sheepishly, the call is that the Yellow Jackets get back on track, take out Boston College, and survive at home against Pitt.

Duke is the sneakier team. If it can get by Virginia, it should be able to close strong and get to the title game if it gets by Virginia Tech.

And then there’s SMU. It gets Louisville and Cal to finish, but the date with the Bears is in Berkeley.

Three Most Important Remaining Games of the ACC Season

1. Pitt at Georgia Tech, Nov. 22
Pitt has two big battles, with a shot to take the ACC Championship and a spot in the playoff, by winning them both. Georgia Tech shouldn’t have a problem at Boston College, so this is everything.

2. Miami at Pitt, Nov. 29
This is bigger for the national picture than it should be for the ACC. There’s too much traffic for Miami to realistically get to the ACC Championship, but it needs to go 10-2 to be in the mix. A team from Coral Gables playing in Pittsburgh in late December could be a problem.

3. Virginia at Duke, Nov 15
Duke has a sneaky good shot to win out with at North Carolina and Wake Forest to close. Virginia can get back in the driver’s seat with a win.
