UNC linebacker earns Weekly ACC Honors

There’s still plenty of work to do, but the North Carolina Tar Heels are winners of consecutive football games. On Saturday, UNC achieved that feat with a 20-15 victory over Stanford.

North Carolina’s (4-5, 2-3 ACC) defense continue showing out through the first three quarters, holding the Cardinal (3-7, 2-5 ACC) to three points. One of the Tar Heels’ top producers was starting linebacker Khmori House, who totaled a game-high 13 tackles, intercepted one pass and delivered a clutch pass deflection on Stanford’s potential game-winning drive.

With his Saturday performance, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that House earned ACC Linebacker of the Week honors.

House leads UNC with 59 tackles through nine games. House has 15 more tackles than his closest teammates, Boise State transfer Andrew Simpson (44), who forms one of the ACC’s top linebacker duos with House.

North Carolina’s defense held Syracuse under 150 yards on Halloween. Despite a close loss the prior week, the Tar Heels held Cal under 300 yards.

House came over from Washington with defensive coordinator Steve Belichick in the offseason, part of a large roster overhaul. UNC had 70 new players on its roster at one point, including the replacement of nearly every defensive starter.

North Carolina looked out-matched against Power Four competition earlier in its season, but House said defense turned a corner during its second bye week, which followed a blowout loss vs. Clemson.

Will House lead the Tar Heels’ defense into an upset victory at Wake Forest this coming Saturday? UNC needs to win for a slim shot at becoming bowl-eligible.
