Notre Dame hosting 2027 QB who calls the Irish his ‘dream school’

It appears Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman is coming in aggressively towards one of its top 2027 quarterback targets.
Fresh after a very impressive showing from the Elite 11 regional in Indianapolis on Saturday, Kamden Lopati disclosed his list of spring visits and Notre Dame is one of his destinations. They will have a chance to close his recruitment down later this month as the quarterback will visit campus on March 27th through the 28th.
Lopati is a composite four-star athlete, ranked as the No. 9 best quarterback and No. 114 overall in the 2027 class according to the 247Sports Composite. He has been committed to Bret Bielema and the Fighting Illini since July of 2025, but that did not stop Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman from extending an offer in February for the talented quarterback.
It’s notable since his commitment to Illinois, that other programs have been keeping tabs on Lopati after his most recent season throwing for over 2,500 yards last season and his impressive performance in the Under Armor All-American game where he went 9-of-15 passing for 105-yards.

Illinois won’t be the only team that the Irish will have to beat in order to win over Lopati’s services however. Kamden, who already visited California in January, announced that he will be visiting Duke on March 6th (in tandem with him attending a Duke vs. North Carolina basketball game), and then after his visit to South Bend will be traveling to Michigan during the first week of April. He will wrap up his spring visits in Champaign on April 10th with the Illini.
Lopati told Steve Wiltfong (subscription required) of On3 that Notre Dame was his “dream school,” and whether that gives the Irish an advantage will be decided in a matter of weeks on his visit.
