The Oklahoma Sooners picked up another big-time commitment to add to their elite 2027 recruiting class on Tuesday. 247Sports composite five-star linebacker Cooper Witten became the 14th pledge in the Sooners 2027 class.
Witten ranks as the No. 25 prospect in the 247Sports composite and is a consensus four-star linebacker in the class. Out of Argyle, Texas, Witten chose the Sooners from an elite offer list that included Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Texas, Texas A&M, LSU, Michigan, and many more. Witten is the fourth top 100 prospect the Sooners have added in the cycle and the second top 100 linebacker in the class, joining Taven Epps.
He’s a dynamic, disruptive linebacker with a knack for taking the ball away. Witten displays an impressive ability to read what the offense is doing and knife into the backfield to make a play. He’s got the speed and athleticism to flow sideline-to-sideline to make plays and carry pass catchers down the field in the passing game.
The Sooners have built a strong relationship with Cooper Witten over the last couple of years after he spent time at Brent Venables Football Camp. That relationship solidified further when Venables added former Dallas Cowboys tight end, and Cooper’s father, Jason Witten, to the staff as tight ends coach.
This is a huge commitment for the Sooners as they get set to host their Junior Day this weekend in Norman.
