NORMAN — Linebacker Cooper Witten, the son of NFL star and Oklahoma tight ends coach Jason Witten, has committed to the Sooners. He made the announcement Tuesday via social media.

A consensus top-three linebacker in the 2027 class, Witten chose OU over Georgia, Tennessee and Texas A&M.

Sooners coach Brent Venables built a strong relationship with Witten even before hiring his father. Witten took three unofficial visits to OU dating back to June 2024.

Witten recorded 87 tackles, two sacks and an interception last season for Liberty Christian High School in Argyle, Texas. He is the Sooners’ highest rated linebacker recruit since they landed Austin Box in the 2007 class.

Witten joins an already loaded Sooners 2027 class, which ranks third nationally by Rivals. He is the second linebacker to commit after four-star Taven Epps.
