Kirby Smart, Georgia Receives Unfortunate Prediction On Nation’s No. 3 CB

Just days ago, there was real buzz around Miami potentially making a move in the recruitment of 5-star cornerback Donte Wright. Now, that optimism has cooled significantly.
Wright, who is currently committed to Georgia, had scheduled an official visit to Miami in June. That alone was enough to raise eyebrows. When a five-star prospect with SEC ties plans a visit elsewhere, it usually signals at least some openness to exploring options. But things shifted quickly.
On Tuesday, Rivals insiders Steve Wiltfong, Greg Biggins and Adam Gorney each logged predictions for Oregon to flip Wright from Georgia. When multiple national recruiting analysts move at the same time, it is rarely random. It often reflects strong behind-the-scenes momentum.
Wright remains committed to Georgia, but Oregon now appears to be the team trending in the right direction.

If the flip happens, it would be a major win for Dan Lanning and the Ducks. Lanning, who previously served as a Georgia assistant under Kirby Smart, would be pulling a top defensive back away from his former program. That would not only strengthen Oregon’s 2027 class, but also deliver a direct recruiting victory over one of the nation’s top programs.
For Georgia, losing Wright would be significant. He is ranked as a five-star prospect, the No. 5 cornerback in the country and the No. 30 overall player nationally in the 2027 class. Players with that profile are foundational pieces in elite recruiting classes. Smart has built Georgia into a powerhouse by consistently stacking that level of talent, particularly in the secondary.
Miami, meanwhile, finds itself on the outside looking in.
The Hurricanes had hoped Wright’s official visit would give them a legitimate shot to flip him. Mario Cristobal and his staff have made defensive back recruiting a priority, and landing someone like Wright would have been a statement addition. Now, with Oregon trending heavily, Miami’s chances appear slim.
Nothing is finalized. Wright has not publicly decommitted from Georgia, and predictions are not commitments. Still, three expert projections pointing in the same direction is difficult to ignore.
If Wright ultimately flips to Oregon, Miami will likely shift its focus to other elite targets. One name to watch is fellow five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson, who has expressed strong interest in the Hurricanes. The 2027 cycle is still developing, and there are other opportunities ahead.
For Oregon, the situation reflects continued recruiting momentum under Lanning. The Ducks have shown they are willing to battle nationally for top-tier prospects, including those committed to SEC programs. Adding Wright would reinforce that message.
For now, Georgia holds the pledge. But recruiting momentum can change quickly, and right now, it appears to be moving toward Eugene. A final decision may not be far off, and when it comes, it could reshape the outlook of the 2027 defensive back class.
