Son of NFL Legend Jason Witten Announces College Football Commitment

Jason Witten played 17 seasons in the NFL as a tight end before retiring after the 2020 season.
He played 16 seasons for the Dallas Cowboys before spending his final season with the Las Vegas Raiders. He was always consistent, compiling four seasons of at least 1,000 yards. He finished his career with 1,228 receptions for 13,046 yards and 74 touchdowns.
Cooper Witten, Jason’s son, is one of the top recruits in the 2027 recruiting class and has announced his commitment. According to On3/Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett, Witten has committed to the Oklahoma Sooners. He chose the Sooners over the Tennessee Volunteers, Texas A&M Aggies, and Georgia Bulldogs.

Witten is a five-star recruit in the 2027 recruiting class and the fourth-best recruit in Texas, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the second-best linebacker recruit in the nation and the No. 25 overall recruit, regardless of position.
This is a big get for the Sooners, who have the best 2027 recruiting class in the nation, per 247Sports. He’s one of the top recruits in their class.
Going back to Jason, he was the head coach at Liberty Christian (TX) from 2021-25, then became the Sooners’ tight ends coach for the 2026 season. His son will now get to play at the same school where he coaches.
The Sooners made the College Football Playoff during the 2025 season before losing to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the first round. They’ll try to return to the CFP during the 2026 season, which starts in late August.
