As Longhorns football continues building for the future, they have been busy on the recruiting trail. One player they have been connected to is 2028 prospect Jay Schell. The talented linebacker has seen his stock rise of late and committed to an official visit to the Forty Acres.

While it is a good sign that Schell is willing to take a trip to Austin, Texas does face competition. The Georgia native has also received offers from Auburn, Boston College, Georgia, Florida, California, Georgia Tech, and Vanderbilt. Any of those programs would benefit from having Schell as part of its defense.

When Schell is on campus this summer, Steve Sarksian and his staff will have the chance to make him an offer he can't refuse. The Rabun Gap-Nacoochee High star has shown a knack for frustrating offensive coordinators. That is partly why Texas has made him a target and wanted to get him on campus.

Although the Longhorns have not secured a commitment from a player in the 2028 class, they have been busy connecting with some of the top prospects. They have made offers to four-star recruits such as Neimann Lawrence, Brysen Wright, Jaylen Addai, Jamarios Canton, King Pitts, and Jackson Vaughn. That list should continue to grow as recruiting season ramps up.

Over the next few months, Schell will be a player to watch as he weighs his options. The Longhorns hope that his recruitment ends with him deciding to start his college career in the burnt orange. Texas has excelled at developing linebackers, and they are hoping Schell will be a future success story.
