Colorado football’s run defense was among the worst in the country last season, paving the way for significant changes on that front this offseason.
Deion Sanders brought in Chris Marve to coach linebackers, who has since been promoted to defensive coordinator and added several productive linebackers in the transfer portal.
Marve and three of those new linebackers, Gideon Lampron, Tyler Martinez, and Leona Lefau, spoke with the media on Wednesday morning, with all three referencing the attitude their new defensive coordinator is bringing to the field.
“He was the same guy whether he was linebackers coach or DC,” Lefau said. “He’s a very ‘in your face’ coach. I appreciate that.”

Martinez had similar things to say about Marve, calling the coach an “intense coach” but the type he loves to play for.
Similar to Martinez and Lefau, Bowling Green transfer Gideon Lampron loves Marve and his coaching style, saying it “matched what I’ve done in the past.”
Early chemistry is brewing between the group, with Lampron saying Martinez and Lefau are already his best friends. The linebacking trio will be critical to Colorado’s success in 2026, especially after last season’s play at the position was severely lacking.
