FTRS Picks 2025 Week 12: Best Bye Week Ever

Pick results summary here. The top pickers from last week were donkeygoatrunner and jimmymc who both correctly picked 9 games out of 11. Congratualtions to both of you! donkeygoatrunner remains in the overall lead with 81 correct picks and has extended his lead over second place to 6 total picks.

There were some wacky games last weekend, including whatever happened between Wisconsin and Washington (look up the QB stats on that one if you get the chance), but all the chaos and upsets were reserved for the ACC. If you’re a long time ACC fan then this is nothing new, the last weeks of the season are when the Atlantic Coast Conference becomes the All-Chaos Conference.

Virginia finally dropped a game in what seemed like an inevitability given how they had been eking out victories. After Virginia lost their starting QB, the game became a defensive slugfest that Wake managed to come out on top of and hand Virginia their first ACC loss (despite losing to NC State earlier this year). Now Virginia has to win out to have a chance at the ACC title. Duke rolls into town next week, and despite the Blue Devils losing to UConn last week I do not expect this to be an easy matchup for the Hoos.

Around the same time as Virginia losing (because someone decided to schedule all the best ACC games at the same time) Cal pulled off the upset over Louisville. Louisville fought hard and did everything they could to win this game, but the offense led by Miller Moss could not get the scores when needed. It didn’t help that Cal QB Sagapolutele (hope I spelled that right) had an elite game against the formidable Louisville defense.

So here we are. Georgia Tech is back in the driver seat of the ACC by doing absolutely nothing. Tech fans should feel good about how last week played out but make no mistake the Jackets aren’t going to get bailed out after another loss. We have 3 games left on the schedule, 2 of which must win games in the ACC and 1 of which is a must win for coach Key and Yellow Jacket fans worldwide. We’ve won all but 1 of our games this season, let’s get back into that habit and win the remainder of our schedule. GO JACKETS!!!

picks:

#14 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (-16.5) @ Boston College Eagles

Logan: Always hate a trap game. This is the biggest one for us all year as our last two games of the year will likely to be the focus for Brent Key. Boston College has shown flashes of skill, but generally they are just not a very good team. There is a potential that we do not cover or even struggle to win because we are looking ahead to next week. That said, coming off the bye week odds are pretty well in our favor in this game. I’m taking the Jackets like always and praying our defense looks significantly better this week.

Logan’s pick: Georgia Tech

#20 Virginia Cavaliers @ Duke Blue Devils (-6.5)

Logan: Neither team had a particularly great showing last week. Both teams ended up on opposite ends of the spectrum with Duke’s offense looking good but the defense being unable to stop UConn’s QB while Virginia was shutting down the Wake offense, but the Hoos couldn’t move the ball. Now that Virginia has lost the media seems to have jumped off the Cavalier train, as evidenced by the spread of -6.5 for the Blue Devils. I don’t think Virginia is out of the running just yet, and while I do think Duke is a better team the Blue Devils are also inconsistent in their play. I think Virginia should at least cover.

Logan’s pick: Virginia

#25 USF Bulls (-9.5) @ Navy Midshipmen

Logan: The G5 bid in the CFB playoff is still up for grabs for plenty of teams. Right now, USF seems to be a frontrunner for the position despite being only ranked #25 at the moment. This will be a big game for USF’s position in the American conference and their chances for the playoff. Navy is coming off a bad loss to Notre Dame, but the Midshipmen still have a tough offense and a 7-2 record so they should not be underestimated. I’m taking the Bulls here, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this game is closer than the experts think.

Logan’s pick: USF

Clemson Tigers @ #19 Louisville Cardinals (-3.5)

Logan: Clemson is riding high after winning at home against FSU last week and having their fans storm the field… wait really? It says a lot about where Clemson is that their fans decided to storm the field against an unranked FSU team. Clemson still has to win 2 more games to make a bowl game, which is asking quite a bit with how Clemson is playing. Louisville should be fired up after their last loss, but can their offense move the ball against Clemson when they struggled against Cal? This is a tough one… I guess I’ll take Louisville since they have this game at home but I don’t feel great about it.

Logan’s pick: Louisville

TCU Horned Frogs @ #12 BYU Cougars (-6.5)

Logan: BYU got dominated last week by Texas Tech. The Red Raider’s D-line in particular dominated the BYU O-line and made it hard for BYU to move the ball. TCU’s defense isn’t as good as Texas Tech’s but they aren’t slouches either. TCU also has a fantastic QB with a solid O-line. It might just be my personal hope that another BIG12 team drops a game, but it does feel like TCU has a good chance in this game. I will take TCU to at least cover.

Logan’s pick: TCU

NC State Wolfpack @ #16 Miami Hurricanes (-14.5)

Logan: Miami is still in the hunt huh? Before the season started I noted that Miami would be the one team that could benefit from not playing in the ACC Championship game. Miami has a great defense and a decent offense, they just have a tendency to choke in certain games. I think the Hurricanes have gotten the choking out of their system, we will see if the Canes can do enough to sneak into the playoff. Miami takes this one despite NC State’s fantastic offense.

Logan’s pick: Miami

South Carolina Gamecocks @ #3 Texas A&M Aggies (-18.5)

Logan: South Carolina needs to win out to make a bowl game, and the gamecocks have pulled off some crazy upsets before. Do I think the gamecocks will pull off the upset here? No, I cannot predict South Carolina to win against Texas A&M while on the road. Aggies should have this one.

Logan’s pick: Texas A&M

Iowa Hawkeyes @ #17 USC Trojans (-6.5)

Logan: After last week against Oregon I still feel like Iowa is a tough out. USC has a good QB but he is turnover prone and will struggle against this Iowa defense. This will be a close game and I expect Iowa to keep the final score within a touchdown. I will take Iowa.

Logan’s pick: Iowa

#11 Oklahoma Sooners @ #4 Alabama Crimson Tide (-6.5)

Logan: I’m back on the Alabama train. Always pick Alabama to cover and all that.

Logan’s pick: Alabama

#9 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (-10.5) @ #23 Pitt Panthers

Logan: If Notre Dame is going to lose before the end of the season it will be here. Pitt is a good team with a talented defense and a fantastic QB. I’m not looking forward to playing Pitt next week. Despite that, I think Notre Dame will win this game. Currently there is too much pressure on Pitt to look forward and win the ACC. It doesn’t help that Notre Dame is just a very good team. I think Notre Dame covers despite the large point spread.

Logan’s pick: Notre Dame

#10 Texas Longhorns @ #5 uga (-6.5)

Logan: I’ve gotten tired of mocking them. You have to bring up uga given their relevance, but they always win so what’s the point. I’m gonna keep picking uga till the end of the year and hope someone proves me wrong, I’m just kind of tired of trying to find reasons to be contrarian against this team.

Logan’s pick: uga
