Remembering Notre Dame Legend Lou Holtz – 2026 Cornerback Preview
NCAAF College Football News, Photos, Stats, Scores, Schedule & Videos...
With the unfortunate passing of legendary Notre Dame head coach Lou Holtz, there was no better way to kick off today's show than talk through his accomplishments at Notre Dame and the legacy he left in South Bend. Coach Holtz set the standard for developing young men and valuing them as people, not just players. His accomplishments were a byproduct of his philosophy of developing young people.
We also talked through and previewed Notre Dame's cornerback room on today's show and it's loaded with talent, experience, length and speed. New defensive backs coach Aaron Henry is walking into a stellar situation. We talk through his goals and expectations this season and also breakdown the overall roster. We wrapped everything up with a fun discussion around the Top 10 cornerbacks that have played at Notre Dame since 2000. You can watch all of that and more on today's episode of the Irish Breakdown Podcast.

Here are some of the main topics we discussed on today's show:
On Lou Holtz's Legacy At Notre Dame…
"You're given certain gifts, what do you do with them? That is something when you think about the life of Lou Holtz and he embodies that. The impact that he had on the field is what a lot of people will talk about. He turned around every program he coached at and won Notre Dame's last National Championship. But his impact as a leader of young men carries the day. Winning and having the success that Lou Holtz had is a byproduct of the buy-in and the trust he built within the programs he coached at."
On What To Expect From Leonard Moore This Season…
"Bottom line, keep doing what you're doing. But with that being said, I still think there's another level he can reach. That will be up to Aaron Henry and ultimately Chris Ash to get Leonard Moore to his ultimate potential. He's already the Bonafede No. 1 cornerback in the country. Heck, he was that coming into the 2025 season. Now, after a Unanimous All-American season, he returns to maintain that reputation. Leonard Moore has the opportunity to be the best cornerback that's come through Notre Dame, now it's about going out and doing it."
On Benjamin Morrison's Time With The Irish…
"He's the biggest 'what if' on this list for me. Benjamin Morrison was one of the best cornerbacks I've seen play at Notre Dame. I just wish we had the opportunity to see how his career would have ended. What would the playoffs had looked like in 2024 if he was still in the lineup? Would the national title game gone differently? Maybe, but we will never know. He was a great football player and an even better leader and man off the field."
