Notre Dame Defensive End Target Ifeanyi Edemobi Is A Fast Rising Prospect

Just one year ago, Fort Wayne, Ind/Northrop defensive end Ifeanyi Emedobi had no major college football offers, but things have changed in a hurry. A week ago, the standout from the Hoosier state earned an offer from Notre Dame, and his offer list is starting to blow up. Quite impressive for the 6-4 edge, who played his first season of football in 2025.

Emedobi – a tall, long, athletic prospect in the Class of 2027 – chose to give football a try, and the decision is paying off handsomely.  Emedobi has become one of the hottest recruits not just in the Midwest, but in the entire country, having eclipsed the double-digit offer mark after his opportunity from Notre Dame last week.

“I had been thinking about it for awhile,” Emedobi said of wanting to play football. “My dad played in college at Eastern Michigan.  I was just never really interested in it until last year. Then when I moved back to Indiana, CoachKalen (Desrosiers) had asked me to come out and start training with him.”

Desrosiers – who trains defensive linemen for Fort Wayne-area based TractionAp – has played a critical role in developing Emedobi into one of the country’s fastest rising prospects.  Emedobi made a huge impact on the gridiron in his first year, recording 59 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks and two forced fumbles last season.  Turn on the tape and what you’ll see from Emedobi is a fast, explosive, and twitchy pass rusher who can wreck havoc on opposing quarterbacks.  Those skills, combined with his lengthy frame, were undoubtedly key factors that made Notre Dame offer him last week.

“I’m still new to football, so I’m learning about even the best programs, including Notre Dame,” Emedobi said. “I do know that Coach (Marcus) Freeman is a high-profile coach and has the respect of many. From what I know he’s a great leader and somebody that can develop me into the student-athlete and human being I desire to be.”

Emedobi learned of the offer last Wednesday when a handful of Notre Dame coaches followed him on X.  Defensive analyst/assistant defensive line coach Nick Sebastian and new defensive line coach Charlie Partridge all introduced themselves, and he quickly made connections with even more members of the Irish staff.

“We’ve only been in contact over the course of a few days but I can tell that they’re all pretty cool guys,” Emedobi noted. “I’ve also noticed Coach Partridge has a prestigious history of developing people at my position, so I took a notice in that.  When I think of Notre Dame I think of  their leprechaun. I think of their diehard fans, I think of academics, and in my opinion the Notre Dame brand means to play like a champion.”

Emedobi will soon see Notre Dame in person, as the talented edge player has an unofficial visit set for March 28th and a return trip on April 25th for Notre Dame's Blue-Gold Game.
