David Pollack Questions Georgia's Talent Depth After College Football Playoff Disappointments

The Georgia Bulldogs began the decade with a strong performance, winning back-to-back national championships in 2021 and 2022. They appeared poised to take over from the Alabama Crimson Tide as the new dynasty in college football.

However, since then, the Bulldogs have not won a game in the College Football Playoff. In 2023, they completed a perfect regular season with a record of 12-0 but lost to Alabama in the SEC Championship Game, which prevented them from making the playoff. In 2024 and 2025, they faced further disappointment, losing their opening playoff games to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Ole Miss Rebels.

David Pollack, a former Georgia All-American, discussed the Bulldogs’ performance on his podcast, “See Ball Get Ball with David Pollack,” alongside ESPN’s Rece Davis. Pollack expressed that last season was the first time under head coach Kirby Smart that he had concerns about the level of talent on the team.

“It’s the first time I’ve ever gone into a season with Kirby, and I’m going, ‘Who’s the ballers?’ Who is going to be the All-American? Because usually you’ve got three or four that are first-round picks. Last year, you were like, ‘I don’t know who those are?'”

Davis believes that Georgia is not far from becoming a top contender. He thinks that if they had defeated the Ole Miss Rebels in the quarterfinals, they would have gone on to beat the Miami Hurricanes and reached the national championship game last season. He expects the Bulldogs to be among the favorites to win it all in the upcoming year.

The next step for Georgia may depend on whether the program can once again produce the type of elite, game-changing players that defined its championship teams. During the Bulldogs’ national title runs, the roster was loaded with first-round NFL talent across both sides of the ball. If that level of star power returns, Georgia could quickly reestablish itself as the dominant force many expected after its back-to-back titles.

Recruiting trends suggest that the possibility remains very real. Under Smart, Georgia has consistently signed top-ranked recruiting classes and maintained one of the deepest rosters in college football. That pipeline means several younger players could emerge as the next wave of All-Americans and early NFL draft picks, potentially restoring the Bulldogs’ reputation as the sport’s most talent-rich program.

Looking ahead, Georgia will again enter the upcoming season among the favorites in the SEC and a strong contender for the College Football Playoff. If the Bulldogs can rediscover the elite playmakers that once defined their roster, the program could quickly move from playoff frustration back into the national championship conversation.
