Cade Klubnik’s toughness has once again been on display. Despite dealing with a quad contusion suffered earlier this month against Duke, Clemson’s starting quarterback suited up last Saturday and helped guide the Tigers to a 24 to 10 victory over Florida State.
Head coach Dabo Swinney revealed after the game that Klubnik’s issue wasn’t connected to the ankle injury he picked up at Boston College on October 11, the one that sidelined him for the SMU matchup the following week. On Tuesday, Swinney provided more details about his quarterback’s recovery ahead of Clemson’s upcoming trip to Louisville.
“The ankle is good,” Swinney said. “He could hardly walk last week because his thigh was so swollen and blown up. He got better each day and was ready on gameday.”
Swinney added that Klubnik’s mobility has noticeably improved heading into this week. “He’s a lot better than he was this time last week,” he said. “He couldn’t even practice. So, he’s doing better.”
Klubnik was sharp against Florida State, completing 20 of 27 throws for 221 yards and a touchdown, and adding a 4 yard rushing score on Clemson’s opening drive. He’s now gone three games, 108 straight passes, without throwing an interception.

For the season, the senior quarterback has completed nearly 68 percent of his attempts for 2,136 yards and 14 touchdowns with five interceptions, while rushing for 117 yards and three scores. Clemson heads to Louisville for a Friday night matchup at L&N Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on ESPN.
