STILLWATER — When he joined the Oklahoma State football team last winter, wide receiver Shamar Rigby hadn’t heard the name of Justin Blackmon.
But thanks to some research, Rigby has been wildly impressed to learn about the former Cowboy star who will be inducted into the Ring of Honor during Saturday’s game against Kansas State, set for an 11 a.m. kickoff at Boone Pickens Stadium.
“He was a baller,” Rigby said. “I looked him up, I was watching highlights and stuff, like how many catches and yards he had. He was nice, for sure.”
College football’s only two-time Biletnikoff Award winner, Blackmon went into the College football Hall of Fame last year.
Blackmon’s spotted past, including the drug and alcohol issues that ended his NFL career, hampered his reputation, but he has mostly gotten back on a positive path.
He was arrested last April in Stillwater following a football reunion event on a complaint of public intoxication on the OSU campus, but the case was later dropped by the Payne County District Attorney’s office.
Blackmon will become the sixth Ring of honor inductee and the first receiver. He joins OSU’s four legendary running backs, Thurman Thomas, Barry Sanders, Terry Miller and Bob Fenimore, as well as defensive lineman Leslie O’Neal.
