Ohio State Target Kasi Currie Predicted to Choose Texas Over Buckeyes

After a disappointing loss to the Miami Hurricanes in the Cotton Bowl Classic, the Ohio State Buckeyes failed to repeat as national champions. They finished the 2025 season 12-2, with another loss coming to the Indiana Hoosiers in the Big Ten Championship Game.

While things didn’t end on a high note, Ryan Day has hit the recruiting trail looking to build the roster up. Ohio State‘s 2027 recruiting class already ranks third in the nation with nine commitments.

Defense has been a focal point, already landing five-star EDGE DJ Jacobs, four-star linebacker Quinton Cypher, four-star safety Eli Johnson, and three-star safety Angelo Smith. The Buckeyes aren’t done either, eyeing one of the nation’s top pass rushers.

Ohio State is one of just four teams to schedule an official visit with defensive lineman Kasi Currie. He will make his way to Columbus on May 29, while also visiting the Texas Longhorns (June 5), Oregon Ducks (June 12) and California Golden Bears (June 16).

It’s an opportunity for Day to make another big splash. Currie is a four-star recruit, the No. 2 defensive lineman and the No. 26 player in the nation, according to 247Sports. Last season for Sierra Canyon High School, he racked up 15 tackles, four tackles for loss and one interception.

Unfortunately for Ohio State, another team appears to be taking a lead. 247Sports’ recruiting analyst Blair Angulo recently logged a crystal ball prediction for Currie to pass on the Buckeyes and instead choose Texas.

If the prediction becomes a reality, he would be the second pass rusher for the Longhorns, joining four-star EDGE Cameron Hall. Meanwhile, Ohio State would be left looking for a different defensive lineman.

However, Day and his staff do have offers extended to a handful of talented players at the position, including four-star Mitchell Turner, four-star Marcus Fakatou and four-star David Folorunsho.
