The Oklahoma Sooners appear to be adding to their support staff once again on the defensive side of the football. According to a report from Football Scoop, OU and head coach Brent Venables have hired FCS Northern Arizona's Aaron Cheatwood to the staff in Norman.
Cheatwood has spent the last two seasons as the linebackers coach/defensive run game coordinator for the Lumberjacks, and he'll presumably join the Sooners as a defensive analyst. Cheatwood himself confirmed that he'll be heading to Oklahoma, posting about it on X (formerly Twitter).
Last LB dinner in Flagstaff! Love this group of guys. Thank you @NAU_Football for everything over the past two years. Super excited for the next chapter! Boomer Sooner! pic.twitter.com/zKVQS02VKS

Before he coached at Northern Arizona, Cheatwood was a defensive analyst at New Mexico State. He also spent time as a defensive coordinator at Garden City Community College, where Venables played college ball for two seasons.
OU's fifth-year head coach has assembled quite the coaching staff on the defensive side of the ball in Norman heading into spring practice, and they're led by one of the best defensive minds in the country. With Venables calling the plays again this season, the Sooners look to be stout defensively again this fall.
