The second edition of the College Football Playoff rankings were released on Tuesday night.

After a heartbreaking 18-16 loss against Oregon last Saturday, Iowa (6-3, 4-2 Big Ten) wasn’t punished much by the CFP rankings committee. After debuting at No. 20 in the initial CFP rankings last week, the Hawkeyes fell just one spot to No. 21 nationally following their loss against the Ducks.

It’s a nice indication from the rankings committee that it values the Hawkeyes’ performance against a Big Ten and national championship contender in Oregon.

The Hawkeyes’ upcoming opponent, the USC Trojans, climbed two spots to No. 17 nationally. With another ranked opponent on the docket this week, Iowa has a chance to improve its national standing straight away. After its win at Iowa, Oregon jumped one spot to No. 8 nationally.

Like a week ago, the Big Ten occupies the top two spots in the latest CFP rankings. Ohio State is once again ranked No. 1 after its 34-10 win over Purdue and Indiana is No. 2 after its 27-24 victory over Penn State.

The final Big Ten team ranked inside the new CFP rankings is No. 18 Michigan.
