AUBURN — University of South Florida transfer, now Auburn football quarterback Byrum Brown, was feeling outstanding after Auburn‘s first spring practice Tuesday, March 17 at Woltosz Football Performance Center.

As with any first practice, the process wasn’t perfect, but Auburn begins March with a slight head start because of Brown’s experience with coach Alex Golesh, and the relationship he’s established with the six USF transfers at pass catching positions.

“Man, it’s great. You’ve just got that natural chemistry you built for a whole year. Just bringing it to a new place and building chemistry with the new guys,” Brown said following Auburn’s first spring practice.

Of Brown’s 3,158 passing yards and 28 touchdowns in the 2025 season with USF — 2,412 of those yards, and 23 of those touchdowns followed Brown to Auburn for the 2026 season.

With Brown’s familiarity with Golesh and the receiving room, it’s stirred some early anticipation for an offense that finished 11th in the SEC.

Following Auburn’s first spring practice, Brown had no shortage of words when describing the skill positions the Tigers are fielding this spring.

The Auburn quarterback referred to the receiving room as “dawgs” because of their speed and physicality. Brown talked about how dynamic the running back room will be for Auburn, and how his presence alone can open up things for a deep running back for the Tigers. But the principle always circled back to Brown as the anchor.

“It’s truly a blessing. This is something you dream of. I’m just truly blessed to be in this position. But I know with that, there comes a lot of hard work. I’m trying to do everything I can outside of talking to fans — inside this building — so I know that when I’m out on the field, the fans can trust I’m going to do my job. And my teammates and coaches can trust I’m going to do my job, as well,” Brown said.

It’s a tall task for a fanbase hungry to see Auburn football be competitive in the SEC and find its way to the College Football Playoffs. But for the Tigers and Golesh, it helps to have a head start like Brown.

“The centerpiece is huge, to be able to operate, obviously, the quarterback, the skill guys, and I think, more impressive than just the guys themselves, they’re bringing the other guys in those rooms along with them,” Golesh said. “And there’s some young guys that stepped up that are certainly not South Florida guys, but it’s been huge. You saw it offensively today for sure.”
