With the first set of College Football Playoff rankings already in front of us, we got to experience a weekend of college football through a new lens, looking at teams as they jockey for position ahead of the conference championship games and postseason play in a handful of weeks.
While these rankings are going to continue to evolve and change over the coming weeks, it's a great early snapshot to show us what the committee values and what certain teams need to do going forward in order to get themselves into position to make the playoffs, outside of winning their conferences.
The Oregon Ducks debuted a bit lower in the CFP rankings than the US LBM Coaches Poll or AP Poll, but with a win over the No. 20 Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday, how did that impact them going forward?
Here's a look at how the playoff committee sees the top teams in the nation for their second official rankings:
- Ohio State Buckeyes
- Indiana Hoosiers
- Texas A&M Aggies
- Alabama Crimson Tide
- Georgia Bulldogs
- Texas Tech Red Raiders
- Ole Miss Rebels
- Oregon Ducks
- Notre Dame Fighting Irish
- Texas Longhorns
- Oklahoma Sooners
- BYU Cougars
- Utah Utes
- Vanderbilt Commodores
- Miami Hurricanes
- Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
- USC Trojans
- Michigan Wolverines
- Virginia Cavaliers
- Louisville Cardinals
- Iowa Hawkeyes
- Pittsburgh Panthers
- Tennessee Volunteers
- USF Bulls
- Cincinnati Bearcats
The next playoff rankings will come out on Tuesday of next week at 5:30 p.m. PST on ESPN.

How many teams in College Football Playoff 2025?
This is the second year where there are 12 teams in the College Football Playoff. For the first 10 iterations of the playoff, there were only four teams invited.
How does College Football Playoff format work?
In a change from last year, the seeding will be different in this year's playoff. No longer are the highest-ranked conference champions rewarded with a first-round bye. Instead, it is the four highest-ranked teams in the nation who will receive the bye weeks in the playoff, while the five highest-ranked conference champions get an automatic qualification.
