The Florida State Seminoles have five players committed in their 2027 recruiting class, and one of the longest is four-star linebacker Gregory Batson. He is a key commitment for the Seminoles, who have struggled to recruit blue-chip linebackers under Mike Norvell.

While he has been committed since Nov. 7, 2025, Batson's recruitment is not over, and multiple over programs are trying to flip the Leesburg, Georgia native. Chad Simmons of Rivals recently broke down the status of several committed prospects, deciding if they are "locked in" or "looking." He placed Batson in the looking category.

"Florida State was the favorite for months before Gregory Batson committed to the Seminoles last fall, but he will take visits and continue to explore his options," he wrote.

He singled out the Mississippi State Bulldogs and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets as threats. He will officially visit Mississippi State on June 12, a week after he takes his official visit with FSU.

Batson is ranked as the No. 277 overall player and No. 22 linebacker in the Rivals industry ranking. The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder is also the No. 34 player from Georgia.

He is an important recruit for new linebackers coach Ernie Sims to hold onto. Not only has he been committed for quite some time, but he is also a local product. Batson is also the only linebacker they have committed, even though they are in the mix for several key targets.
