The second week of college football playoff rankings, and the Longhorns have made their debut in the field. Texas checked in at 10th in this week's CFP rankings, and as the final at-large team in the field, with the 10th seed. That would have them heading to Oxford, Mississippi to take on Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss, with the winner to take on Indiana.

The Longhorns sit at the exact same spot in the CFP rankings as they do in the US LMB Coaches Poll and the AP Top 25 right now. There is some consensus on where the Longhorns sit heading into the homestretch, and it’s firmly on the playoff bubble. This weekend is a chance to get off the bubble and get firmly in the field, or to fall out of the field once again.

One important aspect to keep an eye on is the conference breakdown of the 12-team CFP field. The SEC leads the way with five teams(Texas A&M, Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, Texas), with the B1G getting three(Ohio State, Indiana, Oregon), then the singular representative from the ACC(Miami), Big 12(Texas Tech) and the Group of 6(South Florida). This could be important because of what it could mean for a hypothetical 9-3 Longhorn team at the end of the year.

The job has officially become incredibly clear for the Longhorns. If you win the rest of the way, not only will you be in the CFP, but you will be back in Atlanta for the SEC title. Everything is still on the table for a Longhorn team that went from preseason #1 to unranked in a matter of five weeks. It’s just about winning this weekend and going from there.
