The second College Football Playoff rankings are out, and as usual, fans have some questions for the CFP committee.

One of the main questions revolves around Texas Tech, which just convincingly beat No. 7 BYU on Saturday, Nov. 8. However, during the second bracket reveal, the Red Raiders jumped just two spots from No. 8 to No. 6.

That means, despite being the current favorites to win the Big 12 Championship, Texas Tech is not in a position to earn a first-round bye, despite having the same one-loss on its resume as No. 4 Alabama and No. 5 Georgia.

CFP selection committee chair Mack Rhoades joined the ESPN selection committee rankings reveal show and was asked what kept the Red Raiders out of the top four.

“What a convincing win against BYU, both sides of the ball,” Rhoades said. “I think offensively in the red zone, they left some points off the board. kicked a lot of field goals. They are a very good football team. Their front seven defensively, we think, is as good as there is in the country.

“Behren Morton is playing with a bad leg. Really tough kid. Offensively is probably what has kept them out of the top four, top five.”
