In the next two weeks-ish, I will be ranking each Big Ten team's best nonconference game.
Quick recap: No, 1 Ohio State at Texas, Sept. 12.
2. Michigan vs. Oklahoma, Sept. 12
3. Wisconsin vs. Notre Dame, Sept 6
4. Michigan State at Notre Dame, Sept. 19.
It has been a rough start in West Lafayette for former Missouri/UNLV coach Barry Odom. Just like it was for Ryan Walters before him.
In his debut season, Odom went 2-10 overall and 0-9 in the Big Ten. Even worse, hated rival Indiana won the national championship. Talk about your Boilermaker double-whammy.
Unfortunately for Odom, it doesn't look like the results will be much better in his second year. The blame starts with the schedule, where not only does Purdue host Top 5 Notre Dame on Sept. 26, it also faces another nonconference challenge with a home game against Wake Forest, which went 9-4 in 2025.
Wedged between the home games against Wake Forest and Notre Dame, Purdue travels to UCLA. New coach Bob Chesney could quickly turn the Bruins into at least a bowl team.
The rest of the Purdue schedule includes trips to Illinois, Penn State, Iowa and Indiana and visits from Washington and Wisconsin.
The goal at Purdue should be to double the 2025 win total but that will be a tough get.
Oh by the way, this is the last time Notre Dame will be on this year's toughest games list, which tells you more about the Irish schedule than that of the Big Ten.
