Kevin Walton is a head coach again.
Smithville has put Walton in charge of its football program. He replaces Jimmy Young, who left after one season to be offensive coordinator at East Union. Brandon Shields first reported Walton’s hire.
Walton’s previous head coaching job was at Falkner, which went 16-6 over the two seasons he was there. However, he was terminated during the 2024 season. Walton then caught on at Smithville and was quarterbacks coach this past fall. The Seminoles went 3-8 and averaged 282 total yards per game.
Walton’s first head gig was at Falkner in 2001, and he ran the now-defunct New Site/Wheeler co-op program in 2011. Walton then made his mark at East Union, where his teams went 35-24 over five seasons (2015-19), winning two region titles and earning five playoff berths.
In Walton’s final season at East Union, the Urchins went 9-3 and averaged 426.7 total yards per game.
After leaving East Union, Walton bounced around as an assistant coach before landing back at Falkner in 2023. He has a career head coaching record of 53-44.
