Texas A&M opened the 2026 spring practice schedule on Friday afternoon, and for third-year head coach Mike Elko, welcoming the program’s 17 transfer additions, combined with 25 of 26 signees in the 2026 recruiting cycle, is the first step towards establishing a floor going into the summer and eventually fall camp.

Throughout the offseason, the primary storyline has been the return of starting quarterback Marcel Reed, who, after passing for a career high 3,169 yards and 25 touchdowns, had 12 interceptions, including four combined against Texas and Miami in the first round of the College Football Playoff, both losses that ended the Aggies’ historic 2025 season.

Needing to replace star-level talent on both sides of the ball, including unanimous All-American edge Cashius Howell, wide receiver KC Concepcion, and four starting offensive linemen, Elko and his staff are confident that nearly every one of the 17 transfer players will not just provide depth, but possibly become upgrades at several key positions.

However, outside of Marcel Reed, every returning starter, led by star wide receiver Mario Craver, is looking to take another step to ensure the Aggies have a shot of returning to the College Football Playoff, which will take consistent play from start to finish amid a tough schedule that includes road games against LSU, Missouri, Alabama, South Carolina, and Oklahoma.

On Friday, KBTX reporter Nick Kuzma, who was at the first of five media-availability practices this spring, put together the always-entertaining and informative “sights and sounds” from the first practice, which included shots of several key players, including a highlight of Mario Craver’s elite speed.

By this time next week, we will have plenty more updates regarding Texas A&M’s spring practice season.
