Notre Dame is certainly looking to make a big impact with Chicago recruiting, and three of the areas best players were on campus this weekend. That includes five-star edge Kameron McGee, a star from Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice. McGee knew exactly what he was looking for coming into the visit, and the Irish staff made a strong impression on the talented edge defender.

"The visit went great," McGee told Irish Breakdown. "What stood out the most is how everyone is saying Notre Dame supports you before, during and after college on and off the field. That was a big message that stuck with me."

McGee was brilliant as a sophomore, racking up 21 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks, including a 4-tackle for loss, 2-sack performance in the state title game. McGee was on campus to see the Irish practice on Saturday, and he was able to get his first look at what defensive line coach Charlie Partridge was all about while leading the Notre Dame DL. Establishing that relationship will be key for McGee, and for Notre Dame.

"I sat in the D-line meeting before practice," McGee shared. "They talked about playing fast and physical, and that's what they did during practice. Practice was super hands on, and I like the way Coach Partridge gave feedback right then and there during drills, to help guys get better."

After practice the Irish defensive line coach and one of the best defensive lineman in the country were able to spend some important time together. They talked football and also spent some time in the film room.

"I feel like we got closer, McGee said of his conversations with Partridge. "It was good to talk to Coach Partridge again and find out how I would fit into their scheme, and what their expectations are for me. They expect me to be able to come to Notre Dame and be a great player and help win championships."

McGee is a legit five-star player that is also an outstanding student. He is looking for a program that can develop him on the field and give him a chance to play right away, but he's looking for a program that offers a lot off the field as well.

"I love the game," McGee shared. "So, I want to always work on getting better. My schedule only lets me take five, and I know what I need to see. I want to see how I fit into the defensive scheme. That’s number one for me. I want the ability to potentially play as a true freshman too.

"Academics are the second thing,” continued the Brother Rice star. "That’s important for me and my family, so that has to be good for me. Then, its culture and community. I already know Notre Dame has great academics and the community has always been good to me. This visit should show me everything else."

Of course, McGee spent time with Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman, who made sure the standout defender knows he's a priority for the Irish program.

"The conversation with Coach Freeman was great," McGee noted. "Coach Freeman let me know that I need Notre Dame and Notre Dame needs me, but I have to be willing to buy in.  Hearing that along with how they support the players throughout life made a big difference for me."

McGee will continue his 7 on 7 schedule with a tournament in Dallas next weekend, and then take four more spring visits over the next month. After that, he plans to take the information gathered and trim his list of schools going into his Junior season. He has an incredible motor on the field that's matched by his work ethic off the field. He leaves South Bend assured that the Irish are absolutely a fit for what he's looking for in the program he commits to.

McGee earned a 5.0-star grade on the Irish Breakdown board and he's also ranked as the No. 8 overall player in the country according to On3. He has an impressive offer list that includes Notre Dame, Ohio State, Georgia, Texas, Indiana, LSU, Oregon, Miami (Fla.), Oklahoma, Penn State, Michigan, USC, Illinois, Ole Miss, Nebraska and many more.
