Georgia football has hit the one-week mark of spring practice.
It’s a chance for newcomers from the incoming recruiting class and those from the transfer portal to make an early impression.
One name that has come up isn’t the highest-rated signee.
It’s a three-star interior offensive lineman.
“I’ve been hearing a lot of good stuff about Zykie Helton, one of our freshmen,” projected NFL first-round offensive tackle Monroe Freeling said last week at Pro Day.
Inside linebacker Raylen Wilson brought up the the 6-foot-3 300-pound guard/center from Carrollton as well.
“I like the new offensive guard Zykie Helton,” Wilson said. “I feel like he’s going to be good. He likes to communicate on our line. As a young O-line, you really don’t see that often.”
Georgia turned to true freshmen offensive lineman Dontrell Glover and Juan Gaston in 2025 for prominent roles.
Helton, ranked the nation’s No. 36 interior offensive lineman and the No. 51 overall prospect in the state by the 247Sports Composite, was part of a Carrollton team that reached the GHSA Class 6A semifinals last year.
Georgia only held one padded practice in the first week, but that was enough for Helton to create some buzz.
“Someone that sticks out is Zykie,” outside linebacker Quintavius Johnson said on Tuesday March 24. “Just being really physical and he kind of plays like Donnie.”

Glover started 12 games at right guard. last season Gaston started four.
With Georgia losing starting offensive guard Micah Morris, Helton could earn snaps at guard.
“That’s why you come to Georgia for,” senior left offensive tackle Earnest Greene said. “There’s always somebody else coming in. Everybody here is amazing, talented and stuff like that. So you know, just love to see our guys come in and put the work in every day.”
