Notre Dame football is coming off a tremendous recruiting weekend, where head coach Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish hosted some of their top overall targets in the 2027 class. That included a trio of talented four-star running backs – David Segarra III out of Duncan (SC) Byrnes, Lathan Whisenton out of Waco (Texas) Midway, and Isaiah Rogers out of Springfield (Mass.) Central.

Between those three talented runners, the Notre Dame staff would be excited to have any of them, and potentially two of them. Following a successful visit, it appears the Fighting Irish have put themselves in a spot to land each of them. Rivals national recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong put out an intel piece after the event, where he stated that Notre Dame leads for each of them.

If true, that would be huge for running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider to potentially put together back-to-back tremendous running back classes.

David Segarra’s recruiting background

Segarra is considered to be a four-star player by each of the major recruiting platforms. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Segarra is currently rated as the No. 145 overall player, the No. 7 running back, and the No. 3 player from the state of South Carolina for the 2027 recruiting class.

While Segarra’s recruiting rankings are a bit all over the place, he has been in heavy demand by some of the top programs in all of college football. Some of the top offers for the South Carolina star include the Fighting Irish, Georgia, Michigan, Tennessee, Florida, Texas A&M, Miami, Clemson, Indiana, Florida State, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Boston College, UCF, and Stanford, among others.

As a junior this past season, Segarra put together a tremendous season for Byrnes. In 11 games played, the 5-10, 200-pound runner managed to rush for 1,460 yards and 17 touchdowns, while averaging 8.4 yards per carry. Segarra also hauled in 19 receptions for 198 yards and four more scores. The South Carolina standout is an impressive combination of explosiveness and vision.

Lathan Whisenton’s recruiting background

Depending on which major recruiting platform you frequent, Whisenton is viewed as a three-star player by some, and a four-star by others. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, the Texas star currently ranks as the No. 299 overall player, the No. 19 running back, and the No. 43 in the state of Texas for the 2027 recruiting class. The Rivals ranking has Whisenton pegged as the No. 171 overall player in the class.

Despite those inconsistent rankings, Whisenton has a healthy offer list currently. Some of the top programs that have offered him include the Fighting Irish, Texas, Michigan, Oregon, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Auburn, Florida State, Texas Tech, Missouri, TCU, Baylor, Houston, Minnesota, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Vanderbilt, Wisconsin, SMU, Northwestern, and Cal, among others.

As a junior in 2025, Whisenton put together a fantastic season. In 11 games played, the 5-11, 194-pound runner managed to rush for 1,502 yards and 24 touchdowns on 165 carries, an average of 9.1 yards per carry. Whisenton also hauled in an additional 10 receptions for 102 yards, while also contributing as a kick returner for Waco Midway.

Isaiah Rogers’ recruiting background

Rogers is considered to be a four-star player by each of the major recruiting platforms. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, he currently ranks as the No. 237 overall player, the No. 15 running back, and the No. 2 player from the state of Massachusetts for the 2027 recruiting class. He has continued to rise up the recruiting rankings over the course of the offseason, and there’s no reason to believe that rise can’t continue. ESPN is the highest on Rogers, sitting as the No. 146 overall player in the country.

Like Rogers’ recruiting rankings, he has continued to see his offer list grow in recent months. Some of the top programs that have offered Rogers include the Fighting Irish, Michigan, Florida, Penn State, Nebraska, Florida State, Indiana, Boston College, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Mississippi State, Syracuse, and Rutgers, among others. Even more high-level programs continue to do their homework on Rogers.

As a junior in 2025, Rogers put together a tremendous season for Springfield Central. In 10 games, Rogers managed to rush for 986 yards and 14 touchdowns, including an impressive average of 7.8 yards per carry. The 5-11, 205-pound playmaker also hauled in 32 receptions for 373 yards and three more scores. Rogers’ combination of explosiveness, size, and versatility would be a tremendous addition to any major program of interest.
