Notre Dame's huge recruiting weekend is already paying off, as late Wednesday night the news of a new 2027 commitment emerged.

Four-star running back Lathan Whisenton, from Waco Texas had emerged as a priority target for the Fighting Irish and decided that he’s seen enough, and pulled the trigger. Both Steve Wiltfong and Mike Singer of Rivals/On3 had recently made official predictions for the back to end up in South Bend, which proved to be correct.

The 5-foot, 11-inch and 194-pound class of 2027 prospect is ranked among the nation's top-15 running backs, and was extremely impressed during his first trip to South Bend this past weekend. Whisenton attended position meetings with running backs coach Ja'Juan Seider, offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock and head coach Marcus Freeman. The four-star prospect according to the 247Sports Composite also has offers from blue-blood programs such as Texas, Ohio State, Michigan, and various others.

Notre Dame did a great job in selling him on coming to South Bend as he said the following after his visit, "they’re trying to get running backs into open space, from there, it's all up to what you can do.”

Whisenton becomes commitment No. 8 of the 2027 cycle for the Irish, as he currently is the only back of the group. You have to believe that Notre Dame wants at least two of them in the class, so expect someone to join the talented Texan in South Bend.
