OXFORD — Ole Miss football is beginning spring practice, but coach Pete Golding won’t speak to reporters until few days later.
The Rebels have their first official spring practice March 27. Media availability begins March 31. That is when Golding will address reporters for the first time since the Fiesta Bowl loss in the College Football Playoff semifinals on Jan. 8.
All practices are closed to the public.
The head coach typically addresses the media before or right after the first spring practice. Ole Miss did not give a specific reason why Golding is not doing this.
Golding was promoted to be the Ole Miss head coach on Nov. 30, 2025. It was the same day former coach Lane Kiffin departed for LSU. Golding is a first-time head coach, and it’s been a busy offseason with plenty of press conference-worthy topics.
Star quarterback Trinidad Chambliss has been fighting in court to return for the 2026 season. He was granted a temporary injunction against the NCAA that will allow him to participate in practice, but the NCAA is working to appeal the ruling.
Golding was also accused of breaking the tampering rules in the offseason. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said Golding contacted incoming Clemson transfer linebacker Luke Ferrelli after he was already enrolled.
Swinney went scorched-earth in a press conference by alleging that Golding texted Ferrelli a picture of a contract to sign with Ole Miss. Ferrell is now at Ole Miss.
Golding has also overhauled his roster with 29 transfers. Wide receiver Darrell Gill (Syracuse) and edge rusher Blake Purchase (Oregon) are some of the top transfers who generated a buzz with their commitment.
