Notre Dame Impresses Talented 2028 Defensive Lineman Kellan Hall

Notre Dame has been in a question to build dominant lines since head coach Marcus Freeman arrived, and the Irish staff is working hard to keep stacking up big time DL classes. The 2028 class is loaded with big time defensive linemen, and one of them is Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy standout Kellan Hall, who made a trip to Notre Dame this week to see the Irish program in person, again.

This was Hall's fourth visit to campus, and he got a chance to take a much deeper dive, including seeing the Irish practice.

"It loved up to the hype," Hall told Irish Breakdown. "I got to talk to a lot of the coaches. I got a great glimpse of campus and what athlete life is like and that a Notre Dame degree can hold a lot of weight."

Even though Hall has been to South Bend on multiple occasions, there were still some key unanswered questions. Before today, the consensus four-star defensive lineman never met defensive line coach Charlie Partridge; he was mostly acquainted with linebackers coach Al Washington.

But Partridge lived up to the expectations, and then some.

"I got to see some of the different changes on defense," Hall said. "I got to see a lot of kids he brought in for the portal and college. A lot of guys I didn’t know about actually stayed. We got to introduce ourselves. I talked with him about my family, he talked with me about his. Just seeing his career, he’s done it all. To see his career as a whole getting to meet him outside of football, talking about his family and his daughters, it was nice to connect at all levels."

For Hall, having a strong position coach is a key factor in his recruitment. Like countless other players his age, he has NFL dreams and thinks Partridge can be the one to help him get there, but he is also aware that playing college football at its highest level is a big jump from being a high school player.

"He knows what it takes to reach the NFL," noted the 6-4, 265-pound lineman. "He’s coached a lot of great players, like JJ Watt, and he knows what it takes to get there. He’s put guys in the first round.  He’s going to elevate me as a man as well. That gap from high school to college is going to be an easy transition with a guy like that."

Hall also connected with head coach Marcus Freeman, who hammered home the importance of a Notre Dame degree.

"He said a lot about the school itself, not just the football aspect,” Hall said. “The football team is good historically for a long time, but he also hit on the Notre Dame degree.  As a football player you can take the full title of a student-athlete at Notre Dame."

Hall is a great player at the high school level for head coach Hunter Cantwell at Christian Academy, a team that has won a Kentucky high school state championship for the past four seasons. Expect him to have a huge junior season ahead.
