OXFORD — With rumors involving Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin as the top candidate for coaching searches at Florida and LSU, his son Knox Kiffin is a caught up in speculation.

Knox Kiffin is a sophomore quarterback for the Oxford High Chargers. In an interview with Rivals, he said people asking him about what his father is going to do gets old.

“It’s definitely a little bit annoying but I understand, they want to know,” Kiffin told Rivals. “I don’t know anything about it and I don’t think he’s really worried about anything. He’s just trying to go to the playoffs.”

No. 7 Ole Miss (9-1, 5-1 SEC) hosts Florida (3-6, 2-4) at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Nov. 15 (6 p.m., ESPN). The Rebels are No. 7 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings with two games left to try and make the 12-team field for the first time.

“I don’t think he’s worried about any of that until after the season,” Knox Kiffin said in the interview.

Knox also told Rivals what it was like visiting LSU and Alabama.

“It’s definitely a blessing to go on these visits,” Knox Kiffin said in the interview. “I just have to take appreciation in getting invited to these things because not a lot of people get invited to them.”

What has Lane Kiffin said about Knox Kiffin’s football games at Oxford?

Lane Kiffin said he tries to be a low-maintenance parent when watching his son, Knox, play high school football.

Even as someone qualified to give advice and input, he strives to be a dad first. He knows how frustrating the alternative is to deal with.

“I stay out of it,” Kiffin said Nov. 10. “I think Coach Cutcliffe does a great job with the team, with the offense, with the quarterbacks specifically. I just was never going to be that parent because I’ve dealt with a lot of parents like that and especially at that position. I try to be the refreshing quarterback parent.”

Knox Kiffin threw for 199 yards with four touchdowns on 12 completions in the game against Starkville. A late field goal helped Oxford put the game away. That situation tested Lane Kiffin’s resolve the most in the game.

“At the end of the game last week, in some situations I was like 20 yards away from Cutcliffe,” Lane Kiffin said. “It took everything not to say, ‘Hey, run this ball to the right right here because of the field goal.’ “
