Georgia football commit takes an official visit to Syracuse

Georgia Bulldogs commitment Chace Calicut took an official visit to the Syracuse Orange this weekend, per Rivals. Calicut is a highly sought after defensive back from the class of 2026 and is the top unsigned recruit remaining in his class.

At 6-foot-3, 190 pounds, Calicut is a talented defensive back that could provide a boost to the Bulldogs’ secondary next season. However, Calicut had an off-the-field issue and now his future with Georgia is in doubt since he has not signed with the Bulldogs.

Calicut currently remains committed to Georgia despite taking an official visit to Syracuse. He is evaluating all options despite his current situation in Athens. A Texas native, Calicut would prove to be an excellent addition to any team’s secondary should they flip him from Georgia, as the four-star recruit could visit other programs after visiting Syracuse.

Westlake Chaparrals wide receiver Chase Bowen (11) and North Shore Mustangs free safety Chace Calicut (22) collide after the punt bounces in the first quarter as the Chaparrals take on the Mustangs in the Conference 6A Division 1 UIL State Playoff semi-final game at Legacy Stadium in Katy, Dec. 14, 2024.

Calicut is ranked as the No. 25 safety and the No. 267 overall player from the class of 2026, per the 247Sports Composite rankings. He is ranked as the No. 36 player in Texas. Calicut was a star at North Shore High School despite not playing his senior year, as the Georgia commit has received serious interest from a plethora of teams. The highly coveted recruit committed to Georgia on June 27 despite a hard push from Michigan and Texas.

Georgia finished with a top-10 in both the SEC and in the nation for the 2026 cycle. The star defensive back is Georgia’s only unsigned commitment in the class of 2026. The Bulldogs have 28 early enrollees in the 2026 cycle and two more signees that will enroll over the summer.
