While the rivalry between Notre Dame and USC is “taking a break” on the field, the battle still wages on in recruiting.

Unfortunately the Irish lost one of those this weekend, as 2027 linebackers Josiah Poyer picked the Trojans over the Irish, California and Michigan. The 6-foot, 1-inch and 225-pounder isn’t highly ranked, just the No. 738 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite, but numerous teams believed that he’s much better than where scouts have placed him.

Notre Dame offered Poyer in January, interesting enough the same day that the Trojans did. Distance played a big factor as he never took a trip to South Bend following the offer. The good news is that the Irish aren’t scrambling at linebacker, as they already have Amarri Irvin committed and are top choices for multiple elite others.
