Louisville coach Jeff Brohm isn’t paying much attention to Clemson’s record. What he sees on film is a talented, well-coached team that still looks dangerous despite its 4-5 mark heading into Friday night’s matchup at L&N Stadium.

The 19th-ranked Cardinals (7-2, 4-2 ACC) will try to rebound from a stunning overtime loss to Cal, while Clemson (4-5, 3-4) is coming off a 24-10 victory over Florida State. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on ESPN, with Louisville favored by a small margin.

Brohm described the Tigers as a team that’s much better than their record suggests. “We don’t look at their record, we look at the film and their talent,” he said. “They’ve got NFL prospects all over the field. They’ve won at a high level for years, and it’s clear they’ve refocused and regrouped. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if they finish strong.”

When asked about Clemson’s defense, Brohm said the Tigers “look the part.” He praised their speed, athleticism, and overall discipline, noting that early-season issues appear to have been resolved. “They’re big, they’re fast, they’re athletic. It looks like they’ve cleaned up their communication and are all on the same page now,” he said.

The Tigers have historically controlled the series, winning eight of nine meetings, including all four games played in Louisville. The Cardinals finally broke through last year with a 33-21 win at Memorial Stadium. Brohm credited that performance to strong defense, special teams success, and early momentum. “We were able to get into a rhythm, block some kicks, and the ball bounced our way,” he said. “But this time, we know it’ll be another challenge. You’ve got to be ready to go from the first snap to the last.”

Louisville running backs coach Chris Barclay echoed Brohm’s respect for Clemson’s defense, calling it “tremendous talent.” He pointed to the Tigers’ defensive front as one of the best in the country and praised new defensive coordinator Tom Allen for bringing discipline and toughness to the group. “They’re long, athletic, and disruptive,” Barclay said. “It’s going to be a great challenge, but our players are eager to get back out there and prove themselves.”
