The Texas Longhorns added offensive line depth on Tuesday by signing SMU Mustangs transfer offensive lineman Paris Patterson.
The 6’5, 323-pounder has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
An East St. Louis product, Patterson signed with Arkansas as a member of the 2023 recruiting class over offers from Colorado, Iowa State, Kansas, LSU, Nebraska, and Tennessee, among others. Patterson finished the cycle as a consensus three-star prospect ranked as the No. 585 player nationally and the No. 51 interior offensive lineman, according tot eh 247Sports Composite rankings with Rivals ranking him as the No. 10 offensive guard nationally.
During two seasons in Fayetteville, Patterson did not appear in any games, entering the NCAA transfer portal during the spring window and receiving some Power Four interest before committing to SMU. In one season with the Mustangs, Patterson did not make the two-deep depth chart for the season opener, but did ultimately play 21 snaps over four games at left guard.
Now Patterson joins the competition at the position for the Longhorns with the possibility that he could also serve as tackle depth with the hope that offensive line coach Kyle Flood can unlock the potential that earned Patterson Power Four offers out of high school.
