AUBURN — Auburn football's spring practice period is well underway, with the Tigers taking to the fields at the Woltoz Football Performance Center on Tuesday, March 31, for their seventh practice of the spring, with the A-Day spring game a little more than two weeks away.

Here's a notebook from Auburn's latest practice viewing window, including notes on rotations, individuals and the latest injury updates.

Individual notes from Auburn football practice: March 31

  • Some youngsters on the offensive line saw first rotation looks Tuesday, including freshmen Tai Buster, Wilson Zierer and Miami transfer Deryc Plazz. Cole Skinner also saw the first rotation, working at right guard.
  • Auburn's pass-catchers struggled with drops during an individual period. Keshaun Singleton, Brian Williams Jr., DeShawn Spencer, Brady Marchese, Duke Smith and Erik Smith each had at least one.
  • Sophomore linebacker Elijah Melendez continues to make waves. He was consistently in first rotation, and during pass-rush drills against tight ends, Melendez won every rep. Conversely, tight end Jake Johnson was about the only one at his position holding his own in the blocking drills.
  • Period five was dubbed the "Iron Bowl," with "Dixieland Delight" blasting over the speakers as offensive and defensive skill positions competed in a goal line scenario. Tight end DJ Broughton Jr. got into the end zone a decent amount, displaying a powerful lower-half. On the defensive side, freshmen JJ Faulk and Jaquez Wilkes showed remarkable athleticism and strength.

Injury updates, observations from Auburn football practice

Auburn didn't have many, if any, additions to its tally of players in non-contact protocol. Offensive linemen Jacob Strand and Harrison Clemmer, tight end Jonathan Echols, linebacker Demarcus Riddick and safety Jack Luttrell were each wearing orange.

Offensive lineman Stanton Ramil and safety Champ Anthony were both indoors doing individual work as they return from injuries, and while he did some work during individual drill periods, wide receiver Christian Neptune joined them partway through practice.

Edge rusher Chris Murray, who recently received an eligibility waiver, was also working individually indoors during the viewing window.
