Georgia football quarterback Gunner Stockton has been spotted with a sleeve on his right leg while practicing this spring.
So coach Kirby Smart was asked if the redshirt senior's knee is "OK," ahead of his second season as Bulldogs starter?
"Yeah. He’s great," Smart said on Tuesday, March 31. "He's practicing. He had a little offseason injury in our workouts, but he's fine now. He was limited a little bit first couple days, but he's out there competing doing a good job, focusing on things he needs to improve on and compete with those other guys. I've been really pleased with Gunner."
Stockton finished seventh in the Heisman Trophy voting last season during a year he threw for 2,691 yards with 23 touchdowns and 5 interceptions and rushed for 442 yards and right touchdowns.
His first start at Georgia at the end of the 2024 season and last start last season were Sugar Bowl losses in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals.
Now he’s trying to take it up another level.
“Being the quarterback, you should always be on the best leaders of the football team,” Stockton said. “I think being an older guy and having some experience under my belt will definitely help. I’ve been around here for a long time. I know the standard and what Coach Smart preaches. Being able to relay that to the whole team and being an example.”
