Texas A&M completed its seventh spring football practice on Thursday afternoon, which also served as the third full practice where the media was allowed to attend and record the event, providing more clarity for the fan base, who were mostly closed off to most spring practices in years past. However, under third-year coach Mike Elko, transparency is everything.

This offseason, Elko opted to elevate five coaches to new positions, including wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins, who will take over as the program’s new offensive coordinator after Collin Klein departed to become Kansas State’s new head coach.

On paper, Wiggins has not called offensive plays during his extensive coaching career, but he did serve as Klein’s co-offensive coordinator over the past two seasons, and as former Alabama coach Nick Saban’s assistant head coach and receiver coach before departing for College Station.

Just a couple of hours after Texas A&M’s seventh spring practice, Wiggins spoke to the media for the second time this offseason, praising the Aggies’ freshman wide receiver rotation, as newcomers Aaron Gregory, Madden Williams, Mike Brown, and Jayden Warren have all impressed the coaching staff, especially Wiggins, who stated that the Aggies “struck gold” with the future star rotation.

Detailing all four players’ ability to quickly translate and understand the playbook, while fitting into a veteran rotation that includes Mario Craver, Ashton Bethel-Roman, Terry Bussey, and Alabama transfer Isaiah Horton, provides immediate depth, especially after Bethel-Roman and Bussey sustained injuries.
