South Carolina pulls QB Jerry Meyer III out of Texas

South Carolina QB target Jerry Meyer (Sam Spiegelman, Rivals)

Waxahachie (Texas) quarterback Jerry Meyer III announced his commitment to South Carolina on Friday. He chose the Gamecocks over offers from programs such as Baylor, Houston, Purdue, Ole Miss, SMU and Texas Tech.

Meyer had previously been committed to TCU but parted ways with the Horned Frogs in February after Kendal Briles, the program’s offensive coordinator, left to join Shane Beamer’s Gamecocks staff.

“Coach Briles was a big part of this decision,” Meyer told Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman. “I have a great relationship with him, and he has my trust. I’m also thankful for the rest of the staff and the relationship being established there.”

Meyer told Spiegelman that he is excited about the direction of the South Carolina program.

“I think just the overall program and how it’s being run, the coaches behind it all and the relationships that have been built just made it feel right,” he said. “I think the most exciting part is being able to progress at a high level with great coaches who will push me to get where I want to be.”

The three-star signal caller is ranked as the No. 110 overall prospect in Texas and the No. 56 quarterback nationwide, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings, an equally weighted formula that utilizes the three major recruiting services. He passed for 2,754 yards and 33 touchdowns as a junior in 2025.

Meyer adds to a Gamecocks class that features a trio of four-stars: cornerback Aamaury Fountain, safety Jernard Albright and receiver Jaiden Kelly-Murray.
