Florida football's recruiting momentum is building in the 2027 cycle.

Four-star wide receiver Jamarin Simmons moved the Gators to No. 2 in his recruitment following a spring practice visit to Gainesville on Saturday, according to a report from Swamp247.

The Tallahassee native has now been to campus twice this year — first for a Junior Day in January and again this past weekend for a team scrimmage — and each visit has only strengthened his connection to the program.

Florida wide receivers coach Marcus Davis has been the central figure in Florida's pursuit of Simmons, and getting the four-star back on campus to watch Davis work with his group in a live practice setting was a significant step in the recruitment.

"It felt great being back in the Swamp with coach Marcus Davis and the receivers, the coaches, watching a great practice, great defense versus offense," Simmons said. "It was a great practice."

The chance to see receivers Vernell Brown III, Dallas Wilson and Eric Singleton Jr. — three of Florida's top receivers— operate up close didn't hurt either.

Simmons talked about the receivers, saying, "It's amazing watching them. Them boys got twitchiness, fast route running, hands, just explosiveness."

The Clemson Tigers have been the frontrunner throughout Simmons' recruitment and remain at No. 1, with an official visit scheduled for May 29-31. The Florida State Seminoles, which have traded the No. 2 spot with the Gators multiple times this spring, have an official visit set for June 5-7.

Florida has not yet locked in an official visit date, with Simmons indicating he plans to finish his spring visits before finalizing that piece of his recruitment.

For Jon Sumrall and the Florida Gators, moving back to No. 2 with one of the top receivers in the 2027 class is exactly the kind of recruiting momentum Florida needs heading into the summer.

Recruiting Summary

247Sports has Simmons ranked as the No. 10 wide receiver in the country, the No. 7 recruit in the state of Florida and the No. 61 overall prospect in the 2027 class.

The 5-foot-11 inch, 165-pound receiver from Amos P. Godby High School in Tallahassee is considered by 247Sports' Andrew Ivins as a potential game-breaker at the next level, with the route-running ability, hands and explosiveness to create at all three levels of the field.
