The Gophers football program has added a second, four-star tight end from the Dakotas to its 2027 recruiting class.

On Tuesday, Kindred, N.D., product Brooks Bakko joined Lennox, S.D., native Drake Mikkelsen in the U’s group for next season. Mikkelsen committed on Monday.

Bakko, who is listed at 6-foot-5 and 205 pounds, is the top-rated prospect in the state, according to 247Sports. He had other reported offers from Michigan, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Vanderbilt, Iowa State and many others.

Bakko won the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year in 2025 as a receiver and defensive back, racking up 41 receptions for 757 yards and 12 touchdowns. On the other side of the ball, he totaled 70 tackles and seven interceptions.

Bakko also participates in basketball and and track and field and attends the same school as current U defensive tackle Riley Sunram.

The U now has eight total pledges for the 2027 class, and Bakko is now the No. 1 recruit.
