College football recruiting: Louisiana's 2027 class is loaded with talent

A big reason for the SEC’s dominance for over a decade was that the conference’s top programs recruited well in Louisiana.
A state that regularly produces four and five-star prospects, the 2027 class is one of the best Louisiana has seen in recent memory.
Headlined by arguably the best quarterback in the country and a plethora of dangerous skill position players and linemen, here’s a look at the top 10 players from the Pelican State in the 2027 class.
1. Elijah Haven, Dunham School (Baton Rouge)
Position: Quarterback
Height: 6-5
Weight: 215
Commitment: Uncommitted
Football recruiting notes: There was arguably no better quarterback in the country last season than Haven, who was selected to the ALL-USA Southeast Region Football Team. He set state records in passing touchdowns (62), total touchdowns (73), while completing 72.3% of his passes for 3,931 yards and rushing for 794 yards.
2. Easton Royal, Brother Martin (New Orleans)
Position: Wide Receiver
Height: 5-11.5
Weight: 200
Commitment: Texas
Football recruiting notes: One of the fastest players in the country, the Longhorns are getting a true weapon in Royal. He was the Louisiana 5A Offensive MVP and a first-team all-state selection with 2,095 all-purpose yards and 29 total touchdowns.
3. Ahmad Hudson, Ruston
Position: Tight End
Height: 6-6.5
Weight: 239
Commitment: Uncommitted
Football recruiting notes: Hudson’s skill in both basketball and football gives him a legit shot to play both at the next level, should he choose to do that. He holds offers from nearly every Power Four program for football as well as offers from Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Nebraska and others for basketball.
4. Albert Simien, Sam Houston (Lake Charles)
Position: Interior Offensive Lineman
Height: 6-4
Weight: 280
Commitment: Uncommitted
Football recruiting notes: Simien is another elite multi-sport athlete, but really shines on the football field. He holds several Power Four offers from SEC programs like LSU and Texas A&M, with those programs as early standouts in his recruitment.
5. Peyton Houston, Evangel Christian Academy (Shreveport)
Position: Quarterback
Height: 5-10.5
Weight: 200
Commitment: LSU
Football recruiting notes: Houston committed to the Tigers last September. As a junior, he completed 66% of his passes for 3,836 yards and 49 touchdowns while also rushing for 942 yards and 12 touchdowns.
6. Karon Eugene, Westgate (New Iberia)
Position: Safety
Height: 6-2
Weight: 170
Commitment: Uncommitted
Football recruiting notes: The son of former Louisiana Tech standout and Oakland Raiders safety Hiram Eugene, Karon has followed closely in his dad’s footsteps. He holds offers from several major Power Four programs, including LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, and Texas A&M.
7. Miguel Whitley, St. Augustine (New Orleans)
Position: Wide Receiver
Height: 6-0
Weight: 180
Commitment: Uncommitted
Football recruiting notes: Whitley put up massive numbers in 2025, hauling in 46 receptions for 869 yards and 14 touchdowns. His only official visit scheduled so far is to Ole Miss on May 29.
8. Braylon Calais, Cecilia (Carencro)
Position: Athlete
Height: 6-2
Weight: 195
Commitment: Uncommitted
Football recruiting notes: Houston, LSU, and Ole Miss all appear to be making a significant push in Calais’ recruitment. He’ll visit all three in May or June for official visits.
9. Malachi Zeigler, Benton
Position: Quarterback
Height: 6-2.5
Weight: 213
Commitment: SMU
Football recruiting notes: Zeigler’s a true dual-threat. Last season, he threw for 2,698 yards and 23 touchdowns while also rushing for 489 yards and seven more touchdowns.
10. Jayden Miles, Baton Rouge Catholic
Position: Running Back
Height: 6-2
Weight: 203
Commitment: Uncommitted
Football recruiting notes: Miles is one of the bigger backs in this class and helped lead the Bears to 10 wins in 2025. LSU appears to be the favorite in his recruitment.
