Florida football has a quarterback competition on its hands heading into the upcoming season, and one of the players is drawing national attention.

CBS Sports released its Power Four quarterback rankings for the 2026 season, slotting the Gators' Aaron Philo at No. 48 out of 68 quarterbacks ranked across the country.

Brad Crawford of CBS Sports labeled Philo as an under-the-radar transfer heading into his first season in Gainesville under first-year head coach Jon Sumrall.

Philo is currently competing with fellow Florida quarterback Tramell Jones for the starting job this spring. Jones, a former four-star recruit out of Jacksonville's Mandarin High School, appeared in two games last season and completed 21 of 35 passes for 191 yards and two touchdowns while earning a redshirt.

After spending time backing up Haynes King last season at Georgia Tech, Philo followed offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner to Gainesville after Faulkner made the same move from the Yellow Jackets to the Gators this offseason. That familiarity factor could give Philo a leg up in the competition.

Crawford noted that Sumrall is hoping the Philo-Faulkner connection can translate into early success in the SEC, assuming he wins the starting job.

How the competition between Philo and Jones shakes out this spring will be one of the most closely watched storylines in Gainesville heading into the 2026 season.

Here is everything Crawford said about Philo, who is ranked 13th among SEC schools.

What CBS Sports said about Philo

"Labeled an under-the-radar transfer this spring, Philo comes to Gainesville from Georgia Tech, where he backed up Haynes King last season. Florida offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner asked him to join him with the Gators after leaving the Yellow Jackets as well. Jon Sumrall hopes the pairing could be the answer for first-year success in the SEC after winning big at Tulane the last couple of seasons."
