Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide are building their defensive line of the future, landing a valuable prospect in 2027 lineman Avrian Pauley.

Pauley announced his commitment to the Crimson Tide on Saturday, per On3 insider Hayes Fawcett. Hailing from Mobile, Alabama, he chose the Crimson Tide over the Florida State Seminoles, Michigan Wolverines, and Ole Miss Rebels.

Pauley grew up rooting for Alabama, which was a big role in the ultimate decision. The extremely strong relationship with Freddie Roach was the biggest factor, however, with consistent praise for the defensive line coach and bond the two built over several months.

“It’s the relationship,” Pauley has told Bama247. “He calls me and texts me every day. We can talk about anything. We are like family. I like how friendly and welcoming he is.”

Pauley stands out as a three-star lineman with an 87 score on 247Sports. He shines as the 32nd-best player from the state of Alabama and the 98th-best player at his position. His composite score of 0.8800 ranks him at 21st, 64th and 539th in the entire 2027 class.

It’s a solid pickup for Kalen DeBoer to add to the future defensive line of Alabama. Getting talent at that position will be crucial to the program making its way back to serious championship contention.

DeBoer completed his second season as the Crimson Tide’s head coach. While he has done well as the first coach in the post-Nick Saban era with a 20-8 overall record to show for it, Alabama has been unable to get back to the championship heights they enjoyed with Saban.

Last season was a step in the right direction for the Crimson Tide. They finished with an 11-4 record, going 7-1 in its SEC matchups. They got to the quarterfinals of the CFP before falling to the eventual champions Indiana in a 38-3 blowout.
