Georgia's No. 1 recruit in the class of 2028 has visited the University of Georgia. Five-star safety recruit Casey Barner is a rising junior at McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Georgia. The elite talent is the No. 6 recruit in his class and the top player at his position.
Barner is fresh off a visit with coach Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound recruit has gone on recent visits with the Ohio State Buckeyes and Florida Gators. Barner also has notable scholarship offers this spring from the defending nation champion Indiana Hoosiers and Big Ten powerhouse Oregon Ducks.
Georgia will have to battle some of the nation's elite programs to land Barner's services. Georgia has not landed the top in-state recruit since securing a commitment from five-star defensive lineman Elijah Griffin in the class of 2025.
As a sophomore, Barner had a 95-yard punt return for a touchdown. He has a dazzling combination of speed and elusiveness. The McEachern star is also willing to tackle opposing running backs in the box. His combination of speed and physicality is what makes him so enticing to top schools at the next level. Barner showcased his versatility with a kickoff return for a touchdown, a fake punt touchdown that featured a hurdle and fumble return for a touchdown.
"Had a great time today at UGA," Barner said via a social media post on Thursday, April 9. Barner has already visited Georgia multiple times and knows the Georgia coaching staff doesn't want him leaving the Peach State.
