Auburn football head coach Alex Golesh says former head coach Gus Malzahn will be "a huge resource" for him, per Nathan King of 247Sports.
Former Auburn football head coach Gus Malzahn was in attendance for Tuesday's scrimmage. Current head coach Alex Golesh had plenty to praise about the former Tigers coach and also said that Malzahn would be moving back to Auburn.
"I'm telling you, he loves this place," Golesh said via Jacob Waters of Opelika-Auburn News. "However it all shook out like, he is so grateful for what this place meant to him and still does."
Golesh also spoke on the ability to learn more from the tenured Malzahn. "He's a guy who has done it at a high, high level. I've got no ego in this, man. If you've got someone who has been there and done that, I'll take it. I asked him for his notes from the scrimmage," Golesh said via Justin Ferguson of the Auburn Observer.
Malzahn served as the Tigers' head coach from 2013 to 2020, leading Auburn to the 2013 SEC Championship title, a total of two SEC Championship appearances (2013, 2017), and a BCS Championship appearance (2013). His overall record was 68-35 as head coach on the Plains. Before that, he was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach under Gene Chizik from 2009 to 2011. His offense was a big part of the 2010 National Championship and Cam Newton's Heisman campaign.
On Feb. 2 of this year, Malzahn announced his retirement from coaching after serving as the offensive coordinator for Florida State for a year. Just over a month later, he would be appointed to the College Football Playoff selection committee.
