Recruiting Roundup: In-state LB committed to ACC team talks visit to Michigan

Coming off a bye week and with no home games on the schedule until The Game, recruiting news has been slower than normal for the Wolverines. However, one local recruit committed elsewhere did recently take an unofficial visit to Ann Arbor.

Pittsburgh LB commit goes in-depth on recent visit

2026 three-star linebacker Marcus Jennings, who plays at Cass Tech and just picked up an offer from the Wolverines, just competed against Dearborn Fordson in the Division 1 District Finals. Cass Tech won that handily, 48-8.

Jennings, who is ranked as a Top-50 linebacker in the class on the 247Sports composite, caught up with Brice Marich with The Michigan Insider ($) after the game. He is happy to still be picking up visits despite being committed to the Panthers since late March.

“Yeah, I ended up taking an unofficial visit up to Michigan,” Jennings said. “I was in the linebacker coach’s room and we were just chatting it up, and at the end of the meeting, I asked him if I held an offer from him, and he let me know that I did. The visit was a bit out of the blue because I had a pretty good showing on the Friday night before, and then I ended up taking a visit on that following Tuesday.”

Jennings is obviously aware of Michigan’s reputation, so it sounds like he’s not ruling out a flip.

“I’m definitely open to having conversations with them and seeing what pitch they’re looking at themselves, but I mean, Pittsburgh has been there since I was a sophomore,” Jennings said. “They haven’t said anything better than what Pittsburgh has told me, so I don’t see why I would do anything differently.”

Jennings also said Michigan wants him to take an official visit for the Ohio State game, but since the state championship is that weekend, Jennings may be unavailable.

With the Wolverines already having three linebackers committed in the class, it may be difficult to convince Jennings to be the fourth guy.

New details on recruitment of four-star edge commit

2026 four-star edge rusher Julian Walker has been committed to the Wolverines since July, and during the bye week, Michigan defensive line coach Lou Esposito paid him a visit.

EJ Holland with The Wolverine got some intel ($) about that visit, sharing that:

-The visit went really well, with Walker’s father, who is on South Carolina’s strength staff, having a lot of respect for Michigan.

-There may be some concern about distance, considering his mother has not been up to Ann Arbor yet. However, she will be visiting with her son when they go up there for The Game later this month.

-If Walker does flip, Michigan could go after three-star Minnesota commit Charlie Jilek, who is from Portage, Michigan, to take his place in the class.

It was always going to be a battle to keep him considering his ties to South Carolina, so we will continue to keep an eye on this recruitment as we approach the Early Signing Period the first week of December.

Quick Hitters

-2027 four-star cornerback and Cincinnati native Ace Alston included Michigan in his Top-10 list.
