NCAAF College Football News, Photos, Stats, Scores, Schedule & Videos...

The offseason is in full swing and the annual Blue Gold game is rapidly approaching. Notre Dame is past the halfway point in spring practice and the team is starting to take shape. The other facet of the offseason that's starting to ramp up is the high school recruiting trail and on today's show, we breakdown and talk about the must-get recruits on offense and the must-get recruits on defense for Notre Dame in the 2027 cycle. Some of the names, many are familiar with, but that doesn't make them any less of a priority for the Irish.

We also released our rankings for our Top 10 coaches in college football. We ranked our Top 10 based on three main criteria which we explained during the show. Then, we followed up that conversation with some other collegiate coaching topics like who we believe are the most underrated, overrated and up and coming coaches in the country. You can listen to all of that and more in this week's edition of the mid-week rundown on the Irish Breakdown Podcast.

You can watch the entire episode here:

Here are some of the main topics we discussed on today's show:

On Julius Jones Jr. Being A Must Get Recruit In The 2027 Class

"He brings everything to the table that you could want in a top recruit at the wide receiver position. We talk a lot about stacking classes and they have yet to do that at receiver. Bringing in a kid like Julius Jones would be a great step in the right direction. He also has the opportunity to be one of those 'benchmark' type of recruits that we've talked about on previous shows. We could, in 10 years, look back at the impact of Jones Jr. choosing to come to Notre Dame and say 'man, that changed the outlook on wide receiver recruiting at Notre Dame' but they have to close on him."

On Our Criteria For Ranking The Top 10 College Football Coaches

"It really came down to three to four things. First, you have to take into account what they've done recently, like in the last three years. If a coach was super successful 10 years ago but have been at three different schools since then, that doesn't really qualify. But in the same light, if a coach like Dabo Swinney at Clemson has been there for the duration of his career, you look at that in a different light. We also look back at their previous resume from the last five years which plays a factor with coaches like Kirby Smart and Ryan Day.

"The second thing we looked at was their ability to put together a top tier roster and how they're setting up their program for the future. In cases like Marcus Freeman, he just brought in the No. 1 recruiting class in the country in 2026 and is looking to roll that over into the 2027 cycle. The final thing we took into account was their overall history. Coaches like Smart and Swinney haven't had the same level of success in the last two years that they've had in previous years, but they're also the only two active head coaches with multiple national titles. All of that was under evaluation."
